Empowering Tomorrow’s Workforce:
Avondale Youth Get Hands-On Experience at Cincinnati Zoo

Allied Construction Industries’ groundbreaking Construction Maintenance Internship Program, launched with the Cincinnati Zoo in 2024, provides Avondale youth with a pathway to well-paying careers in construction. Supported by the Spirit of Construction Foundation and Fifth Third Foundation, this initiative combines classroom learning, hands-on training, and community service, enabling students to gain practical skills in safety, carpentry, plumbing, and more—all while earning a paycheck.

Designed to address industry workforce needs, the program immerses interns in real-world projects at the Zoo, preparing them to thrive in construction careers. As program graduates secure positions and pursue their passion, the impact speaks volumes: the Cincinnati Zoo is committed to expanding the program next year, marking a new chapter in workforce development.

By partnering with ACI, funding organizations are investing in Avondale’s future workforce and strengthening community ties. Continued support is essential to expand this initiative, equipping more young people with lifelong skills and creating a sustainable talent pipeline for the construction industry.
